USDA Forest Service Presents Smokey Bear Reading Challenge

Smokey Bear Reading Challenge

Are you aware that Smokey Bear, the US Forest Service's beloved mascot, is turning 80 this year? To commemorate this milestone, the USDA is organizing the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge, an exciting initiative aimed at educating children about fire prevention and natural resources careers. The Forest Services career webpage with the Department of Agriculture is also an excellent resource for teenagers and adults who are interested in exploring work and volunteer opportunities in the field. If you're a public library in Wyoming, you can participate in the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge by filling out a form to receive a Library Incentive Kit. The kit includes one roll of 500 Smokey stickers and one Smokey stamp per library branch in the county. Additionally, the webpage provides detailed instructions on how to access the digital tool kit for the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge. The kit contains numerous resources, including Smokey's reading list, reading challenge log, and certificate of completion. While the physical and digital kits come with prizes for participation, librarians can also take advantage of the digital incentive items available on the National Inquirer website. For instance, the website offers career collector card packs and a fun coloring book available in both English and Spanish. So, don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to promote fire safety and natural resource careers among children!
