March 10, 2021 - Every Wyoming public library, community college library, and the University of Wyoming will soon have access to Overdrive. The Overdrive group will also be offering unlimited magazines similar to the Zinio magazine content that was discontinued last fall.
Most public libraries in Wyoming already offer access to Overdrive & Libby, and the remaining public libraries and the colleges will go live in the next few weeks. If your library already offers Overdrive, your users should be encouraged to start using the Overdrive apps or Libby for their digital content needs as soon as possible.
Why did the digital book program move to Overdrive?
All public libraries and the community colleges in the WYLD consortium will have access to Overdrive/Libby for their patrons. The cloudLibrary duplicates an existing service, and libraries will only need to support one platform for their patrons' needs. In addition, Overdrive offers several simultaneous use options for licensing that were not available through the cloudLibrary.
How were patrons notified of this change?
We marketed the news about the transition in a variety of ways. Email notification was deemed ineffective, as we were unable to obtain patron emails from Bibliotheca, so we focused on in-app notification, social media, and other channels of communication. Information about the change was posted on the digital content pages in GoWYLD as well.
What happened to the patron data in cloudLibrary?
No personally identifying information (PII) was stored by cloudLibrary, but if a patron would prefer to make sure that any transactional data associated with their barcode is removed from the cloud, they can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the barcode number requesting erasure of their data.
